“David Edges”  was not worried when a small line appeared on his toenail, but for his wife “Kelly”, it made her feel uncomfortable. Although many doctors diagnosed it as a fungal infection, in the end, this small sign was found to be “cancer”.

Kelly, 47, a dermatologist, had studied nail diseases during her training and recognised that changes such as the lines could be a sign of something serious. She asked her husband, David, 52, to get them checked out at a สมัครสมาชิก UFABET วันนี้ รับเครดิตฟรีทุกวัน hospital. But was told to just watch for the changes in her nails. When Kelly sought another doctor’s opinion, they again suggested it was just a fungal infection.

Although David accepted the doctor’s advice, Kelly was still uneasy and continued to monitor the changes in her husband’s nail. When she saw that the line was expanding and changing color. She decided to make an appointment with a private doctor who insisted on taking a biopsy from the nail for analysis. Here. A detailed examination was performed and comparison photos were requested from different periods of 17 months. Which showed that the line had clearly changed to be more than 3 mm wide.

Ultimately, the biopsy results concluded that David had a type of skin cancer called melanoma, which was still confined to that area. Kelly said of the time.  “I was so glad to hear the words ‘in situ’ because it means the cancer hasn’t spread.”

“It’s horrible to hear the word melanoma…. I started noticing this line in May 2022 and it made me worry because I learned about nail conditions in the late 90’s. I also know that you can’t tell if a melanoma under the nail is a serious one or not.”

” Doctors are usually referred early when they find changes in melanoma on the body. But because melanomas that occur under the nail are rare. There was little concern about his toe….  But even though he accepted the doctor’s advice, I was not very happy. I continued to monitor him and in October of the same year I noticed that the line had widened and darkened.”

David underwent surgery to remove the cancer cells and had a skin graft from his thigh to restore normal skin, and fortunately. There was no cancer left after the procedure. Kelly added: “We didn’t tell the kids until David was confirmed to be cancer-free because he didn’t want them to worry.”

After the incident, Kelly enrolled in Skcin, a UK charity focused on the prevention and early detection of skin cancer. “He now feels it is important to let others know the warning signs so that cancer can be detected early. His toe is healing well now and we are going on a family holiday in April.”
